Why You’re So Ridiculously Horny On Your Period

As a common feminine experience, periods come with several symptoms every month. Cramps, fatigue, and bloating are some of the most common experiences women go through during this time of the month. Usually, these are the most common experiences that you may feel because of periods.

But surprisingly, some women experience wild horniness during their menstrual cycle. Moreover, many women claim that their horniness goes off the roofs during their period. And most of them wonder why that happens.

According to doctors and biologists, the female body goes through a series of hormonal uprisings and downfalls during its menstrual cycle.

Progesterone, estrogen, testosterone and DHEA, these hormones play a crucial role in determining the nature of the female sex drive. But as to why their sexual drive faces a sudden boost during their period is no mystery.

The following article explores why you may be feeling extremely horny during your periods.

Why Do You Feel Horny During Your Periods?

The answer to this question does not have any straight scientific definition. But the doctors have some ideas that may help clarify the idea. The turbulence in the level of certain hormones may cause sudden horniness during the period.

According to research published in Hormones and Behaviors in 2013, experts came to an answer. In that research, they tested the hormone levels of undergraduate adult women. First, the research went over two full menstrual cycles of these women. Then they compared the results with the daily journals where they kept a record of sexual activities.

The research revealed that the change in the level of estrogen and progesterone are serious influencers of the female sex drive. These hormones can spike up and reduce the female libido.

How Does The Hormone Level Change In The Female Body During Periods?

When you are on your periods, the level of estrogen hormone falls at the beginning of your menstrual cycle. But, when you are on the second or the third day of your period, the estrogen level will increase little by little. As a result, you may see a rise in your libido. The growth of estrogen in your body is the reason for the increased sex appeal.

On the opposite side, progesterone is another hormone that plays a key role in defining the state of your libido. Progesterone works to subdue the feelings of horniness. However, when you are on your period, the progesterone level decreases. As a result, estrogen has no restraining force. As a result, you may feel even hornier during your periods.

Why Do Women Feel Horny Before Period?

Every answer to women’s libido boils down to their hormonal cycle. The menstrual cycle phase causes fluctuation in the level of hormones in the female body.

The two hormones linked to female sexual desires are estrogen and testosterone. During ovulation, these two hormones stay at their peak. The female desire for sex increases during the ovulation phase as the testosterone and estrogen hormones stay at their peak level.

The ovulatory phase starts fourteen days before the menstrual cycle and may last until the seven days before. So, it is natural to feel sexually aroused during this time of the month.

But to say that it only occurs due to the spike and fluctuation in the hormone level of the female body during periods will not be accurate. The individual physical difference may often be why such an experience when you are on your period.

Women may experience a different set of feelings during their periods. For example, when women are bleeding and crampy during their periods, they may not be in the mood for sex. At the same time, some women seek relief through a sexual activity during their periods.

During periods women go through various emotional changes as well. Their mood can decide whether they are horny or not. Many women feel horny during their period because they want the subconscious relief of not being pregnant.

Women also have a very slight chance of getting pregnant when menstruating. Under this notion, many women like to have sex during their menstrual cycle. As a result, they feel horny.
