How To Clean A Glass Pipe – A Complete Guide

Do you have a glass pipe you can’t clean properly? If the answer is ‘yes,’ you have arrived at the correct destination! Simply put, a glass pipe is a convenient and cost-effective alternative to using the more complex bongs, bubblers, and the like. Think about it. A clean glass pipe is sometimes even better than rolling a joint.

While using a glass pipe is fun, many people might not find cleaning it that fun. Several people do not even wash their pipes or bongs properly. This, in turn, makes smoking from these instruments a health hazard for most stoners. Therefore, if you are using a pipe or any tool for smoking, make sure you clean it right.

How To Clean A Glass Pipe?

Cleaning a glass pipe is not as difficult as it might appear on the surface. However, to find out how to clean a pipe, you must ensure you have got all the adequate supplies needed for cleaning a pipe.

Here’s a list of supplies you require for thoroughly cleaning your pipe,

  • Hot water
  • Salt
  • Hand towel
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Small container with lid or Ziploc bag
  • Pipe cleaner or bottlebrush

Once you have managed to get hold of the required supplies mentioned above, it’s time to learn how to clean your glass pipe! Follow the steps mentioned below and clean your glass pipe with ease and comfort.

Step 1: Disassemble

Glass pipes are usually built in a simple way since most of these tools are one-piece products. However, there several expensive versions of a simple glass pipe are available in the market. These more expensive models are built in a complex method with a cluster of glass pieces.

If your glass pipe is made in a simple way, it’s better not to try disassembling it because you might break it in the process and end up cutting yourself. In that case, you can skip this step and move on to the next one. However, if you have an expensive glass pipe made from a medley of glass pieces, you can disassemble the pipe before moving on to the second step.

Step 2: Rinse In Hot Water

One of the best ways to make the cleaning approach better is by using hot water. This is because the pressure of the hot running water removes a part of the resins on the surface that builds up over time. In addition, the water’s heat easily dissolves all the bonds, binding the gunk.

While using hot running water for jump-starting your pipe cleaning process, make sure the heat is tolerable. Also, don’t forget to wear those gloves meant for dishwashing since these allow you to use very hot water, a blessing for turbo-charging the process. You can experiment with other gloves like the cowhide welding gloves, but nothing works better than the dish-washing gloves.

Step 3: Place The Pipe In A Container

Once you have finished rinsing the glass pipe in hot water, put the pipe in a Ziploc bag or a plastic container with a lid – make sure if you are using a container, the plastic is soft. Now it’s time for some glass on glass or metal on glass action involving a lot of motion. But, again, be very careful because your pipe can break otherwise.

Now, add a quarter of the rubbing alcohol and one tablespoon of salt. If your pipe is large, increase the quantity of rubbing alcohol to half and salt to two tablespoons. Basically, the quantity is not that essential as long as you have added plenty of both the ingredients depending on your pipe’s size.

The rubbing alcohol is only slightly acidic. This characteristic helps the resin to break down while the salt acts as a scrubbing solution.

Step 4: Shake Things Up

Now you have to seal the Ziploc bag or the container and shake it hard. When you shake the container vigorously, the alcohol and salt will travel through the pipe, hitting all curves and crevcies inside the pipe accurately. Also, the sticky resins will break down when this process takes place.

Keep doing this for at least five whole minutes.

When you think you’ve shaken enough, shake more. You may have to do this for at least five minutes. Once you have removed the pipe from the container, throw away all the dirty remnants of the container. All you need to do now is rinse the glass pipe thoroughly in some more hot running water.

Now let your pipe dry before using it again!

Conclusion:

If you have a glass pipe, you must know how to clean it right for your own safety. On top of that, cleaning is not a difficult task, and you don’t need some complex cleaner and toxic chemical solutions either. Instead, just depend on some natural supplies readily available at home and keep your glass pipe sparkling clean consistently!
