What are the parts of Zolmist?

Zolmist’s active ingredient is zolmitriptan 5mg/ml in an aqueous solution. This is a serotonin agonist that can treat migraines. Each bottle of Zolmist nasal spray has 7 doses of 5mg/0.1ml. Each dose is dispensed by a spray pump that measures out the right amount.

Zolmist Nasal Spray 5mg has zolmitriptan in it, which can treat migraine attacks with or without aura. Aura is the feeling of seeing or smelling things that aren’t normal and it’s often the first sign that a migraine headache is coming on. Zolmist nasal spray contains zolmitriptan which is a serotonin agonist. It acts like serotonin (also called 5-hydroxytryptamine, or 5-HT) by binding to serotonin receptors in the blood vessels of the brain.

Migraines are painful, throbbing headaches that usually only affect one side of the head. It is due to one of the many migraine triggers that cause blood vessels in the brain to widen or expand. This makes nearby trigeminal sensory neurons send out neuropeptides, which are chemicals in the brain that cause pain and inflammation. Zolmitriptan in Zolmist nasal spray turns on serotonin receptors in these dilated blood vessels, which causes them to close (vasoconstriction). It also slows down the activity of the trigeminal nerve, which relieves pain. The anti-migraine effect of zolmitriptan in Zolmist nasal spray, which relieves headaches and other migraine symptoms like nausea and sensitivity to light, is thought to be caused by both of these mechanisms.

Use this medicine according to how much and how long your doctor tells you to. Before you use something, check the label to see how to do it. Put the tip of the bottle into one nostril while you plug the other one. Aim the spray at the sides of your nostrils and avoid the cartilage that separates the two sides of your nose. Keep a calm breathing rate and a straight head while you spray. Do the same thing with the other nostrils.
